They have also filed a case against a person in living in Singapore for his participation in the illicit operations.
According to Chittoor superintendent of police Kranti Rana Tata, they had detained Gunasekhar, proprietor of Gowrisankar theatre at Varadaiahpalem, after they came to know about production of pirated CDs of the film, Eega on Tuesday night.
Police also picked up Babu Reddy of Gani Pictures distributor, Tirupati, Jeevanathan alias Jeeva of Chennai, Muthukrishnan and Jagan of Tirupur apart from Gunasekhar. The accused spilled the beans during interrogation.
The gang recorded Eega film at Gowrisankar theatre in Varadayyapalem on July 7 after midnight and the CDs were released in the market all over India through Arun, a friend of one of the accused, Jeevanathan.
Jeevanathan received Rs.50,000 from the sale of the CDs and he gave Rs.25,000 out of it to the theatre owner Gunasekhar. Gunasekhar paid Rs.5,000 to those who recorded the film. Police have seized Rs.5,600 cash, six cellphones, a Sony video camera, computer system, etc. from the accused.
The SP said that Arun had marketed the CDs in Singapore also and the gang was responsible for pirated versions of the films, Panja and Ishq in the past. He said that they spoke to Singapore police to file a case against Arun, who is living in Singapore.
The SP commended the Puttur DSP Arifullah, Satyavedu CI Ravimanoha-ra Chari, Satyavedu and Varadayyapalem SIs, Eswar and Ravindranath for busting the rocket.
